Inheritance of stay green physiological determinants in drought tolerant maize inbred lines

نویسندگان

چکیده

Stay green is the plant’s ability to sustain photosynthetically functional leaf area for longer periods, even with excessive water stress. This study was done understand gene action that controlled inheritance of stay trait general objective contributing breeding more drought tolerant maize varieties. 10 F1 hybrids from crosses between highly performing and least inbred lines as regards selected physiological determinants were planted under a rain out shelter well-watered control water-stress treatments applied six weeks after planting eight planting. With progress in days flowering, data collected on relative chlorophyll per unit (RC: LAUG), maximum quantum yield photosystem II photochemistry (ΦII), non-photochemical quenching (NPQ) linear electron flow (LEF). RC: LAUG NPQ mainly inherited by additive action. ΦII environment than interallelic interactions while LEF interactions. Key words: Additive, inheritance, non-additive, photosynthesis, green.

Identification of Drought Tolerant Mechanisms in Maize Seedlings Based on Transcriptome Analysis of Recombination Inbred Lines

Zea mays is an important crop that is sensitive to drought stress, but survival rates and growth status remain strong in some drought-tolerant lines under stress conditions. Under drought conditions, many biological processes, such as photosynthesis, carbohydrate metabolism and energy metabolism, are suppressed, while little is known about how the transcripts of genes respond to drought stress ...

Combining ability and testcross performance of drought‐tolerant maize inbred lines under stress and non‐stress environments in Kenya

Drought and poor soil fertility are among the major abiotic stresses affecting maize productivity in sub-Saharan Africa. Maize breeding efforts at the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) have focused on incorporating drought stress tolerance and nitrogen-use efficiency (NUE) into tropical maize germplasm. The objectives of this study were to estimate the general combining ...

Physiological and proteomic analysis of the response to drought stress in an inbred Korean maize line

Understanding the response of a crop to water deficiency is the first step towards breeding drought-tolerant varieties. In this study, inbred maize (Zea mays L.) line KS140 was subjected to drought stress by withholding water for 10 days at the V5 or V6 leaf stage. Water-deficient plants experienced a decrease in relative leaf water content, stomatal conductance, net CO2 assimilation rate, and ...

Differential Expression of microRNAs in Maize Inbred and Hybrid Lines during Salt and Drought Stress

Here, we analyzed whether the microRNA (miRNA) expression levels differ between maize inbred lines B73 and Mo17 and their reciprocal hybrids under salt and drought stress. We found that miR156, miR164, miR166, miR168, miR171 and miR319 are differentially expressed under abiotic stress. Interestingly, Mo17 × B73 showed the strongest change in miRNA expression in response to salt or drought stres...

Use of Physiological Parameters for Screening Drought Tolerant Barley Genotypes

With the aim of understanding and identifying the traits which can be used as the suitable criteria for quick screening of the water deficit tolerant barley genotypes, an experiment based on randomized complete blocks design with three replications was conducted during two years to evaluate the biochemical responses of 20 barley genotypes to full irrigation and terminal water stress in the fie...
